The local adoption process

Adoption of a child from NSW (the local NSW program) is available through Community Services Adoption and Permanent Care Services, and a number of accredited adoption agencies. Children may be placed with an adoption order to be finalised within the coming year, or a permanent care order with the view to adoption.

NSW criteria for assessment of adoption applicants form part of the NSW Adoption Regulation 2003. This information can be obtained from each agency, with some agencies including the criteria within their adoption information leaflets. The criteria can also be accessed through NSW legislation website www.legislation.nsw.gov.au/
