For couples in the adoptive parents pool (awaiting placement)
The APA holds social functions for couples in the adoptive parents pool depending on interest level and the "poolies coordinator" position on the committee being filled. These functions are great opportunities to discuss the formation of a family through adoption and permanent care, and to swap strategies on coping with the wait for the "phone call".
If you are interested in a "poolies social function" please contact the committee to discuss how this can be arranged.
PLEASE REMEMBER TO NOTIFY THE COMMITTEE WHEN YOU ARE PLACED SO YOU CAN BE ADDED TO THE KIDS CLUB EMAIL LIST Kids club provides invaluable contact with other couples who have formed their family in the same way. Regular mother's groups do not know the journey to parenthood in the same way and thus your questions cannot often be answered in this forum. Kids club also provides a contact point for your children to form life long friendships with children from the same family background. This peer support is so important especially as with the start of school.
